Why
South Sudan
South Sudan is one of the world's youngest countries yet its short history has been a traumatic one. FARM STEW was invited to South Sudan by local church leaders who learned of the recipe of abundant life. One of them declared that this recipe could be a solution to the problems faced by Africans in general. After prayerful consideration, and the generosity of many, we launched a team in the beloved republic of South Sudan in January 2019.
The Challenges
South Sudanese face many challenges:
- Almost 59 percent of the population is experiencing severe food insecurity.
- 84%of the women are illiterate and
- more than one million children acutely malnourished.
Despite a recent peace agreement, years of conflict have devastated South Sudan’s economy. High inflation has made many basic food stuffs too expensive for many families, exacerbating malnutrition levels among children.
What We're Doing
The FARM STEW recipe offers hope by:
- Investing in a team of local people
- Equipping families with tools and seeds for sustainable gardens
- Teaching how to obtain a locally available healthy diet
- Providing Uganda's best non-GMO seed for kitchen gardens
- Encouraging locals to follow basic sanitary practices and developing enterprises
- Supplying sanitary pads for girls, preventing dropouts and shame
